Hi Dean,

It is unfortunate that your child has been misdiagnosed, but I guess there are a lot of children with asthma, and also a great many Doctors out there that are not qualified to pick up CAH.  That is unless you get the symptoms of precocious puberty.  It is one of those unfortunate things.

My son has been diagnosed since birth and even he was under treated and suffered respiratory problems for 6 months and even his Paed who knew what he had and had been treating it for years did not twig that he could be undersuppressed.  he went without blood testss a further 6 months because he was growing great and looked good.  I think there is a lot of ignorance out there where it regards symptoms coinciding with eachother.  I don’t think you can sue a Doctor for not knowing about CAH or LOCAH which is what I feel you would be trying for.  It is true that there needs to be more education directed at ALL Doctors so they at least have a rought idea and when they come across these things, that alarm bells ring.  But sadly, at this present moment in time, it is not statutoryr I don’t think.

You could try to sue for malpractice, but I would bear in mind that Doctors need to be shown to do things incompetently and deliberately to the detrminent of your child I would have thought before they can be sued.  Many are well up with CAH and would have run bloods, but with symptoms of asthma, I would have imagined that that Doctor was very geared up to treating the respiratory side of things because they need to get that in control.  Sometimes children grow at different rates, and unless there is an obvious sign suchbas puberty occuring, a Doctor may not pick up CAH for a long time.
