SOLUTION:  CHERRY SYRUP

We give our daughter 2.72 cc five times daily.  While we were still in the hospital, I begged the nurse to do something so that Melina would take the salt.  I couldn’t stand to see her gagging on it.  Finally, she mixed a dose with 1cc cherry syrup.  Then we got her a Soothie pacifier, (The type with the open back.  Ask your nurse, or order by calling 888-SOOTHIE (766-8443)) put a tiny hole in it and squirted the mixture in it.  (You can also use the nipple to a newborn size bottle.)  It was much easier for her to take.  The cherry syrup neutralized the salty taste a bit.  Melina is now 8 months old and we still use the cherry syrup with her salt, although she is starting to take the salt w/out it.

I know it’s difficult and I often wished I could just skip the dose.  Of course, I didn’t!!  Try the cherry and don’t get discouraged. . . your baby won’t be a baby forever.
