Anne-MarieI can’t remember the dose of salt we gave Sean. So long ago, but it was in the form od Sodium Chloride and 5ml’s squirted into each bottle. I did try putting it in juice to disguise the flavor of it and that worked (Ribena) but it colored it to a sickly green colour. Ashley drunk it though. Of course we could not do that as a newborn---the juice was something we did as he grew older. I don’t think your meant to introduce juice drinks until after 3-4 months are you? I do know that they make Sodium Chloride in different strengths. I never breast fed Ashley either, so he had more fluid per bottle and the salt was further diluted than possibly you are doing with the small 2oz quantity before a breast feed.
I actually like the sound of Wendy Lee’s method. That is to say getting it over with in one or two squirts. The reason I say that is because, atleast she will still be hungry after that (when she has got over the vileness of the dose!), whereas the way your doing things at the moment, it sounds as if she is having a really hard time getting used to the milk being so salty (it is obviously upsetting her appetite and putting her off) and it is taking away from the quantity of breast milk she get’s or formula (whichever you decided). It is important that she get’s as much of her formula as possible, that being her only food at present, so it is not good when her appetite for her milk is not depleted due to the flavor. That may lead to a problem with her growth and weight if she isn’t getting her feed’s properly.
Best of luck with it anyway,
Cheers
Anne-Marie
