Your experience gives me some hope. My son was exactly the same time in the hospital as yours. But they didn’t tell me anything... I have been shouting and making noises behind him, same as you did, and there was no response at all. My ped seems comfortable in that it can be treated, He also said that CAH 21-hydroxylase might be associated with some hearing problems-

I’m pushing to do the tests tomorrow.  Thanks for your support. Just one question. Was your son active and participating on what was going on around him? I’m just amazed that I didn’t notice before.
