DebbiWBut.....second and susequent siblings can also be late talkers because the older siblings talk for them. My son is quite bright and was an early talker...no thanks to his big sis because she was a later talker and has speech problems, too. I think I learned from her problems to repeat every blasted thing he said to encourage him to talk more.
As for the intelligence thing, well.....as far as CAH is concerned, I try to focus on the health issues. I am not a huge John Rosemond fan, but I do like some of his ideas. One thing he wrote about just recently was about a parent who had a parenting problem and she was concerned this behavior was due to the child being adopted. Bottom line, the point he made was that often when we have a child with something "special", we often wonder if the special thing is related to some other thing that might be going on. MOST of the time, it isn’t. Kids have milestones and challenges. I try not to let the CAH be a factor unless it is related to health. My little one had a crisis at 12 days of age and I use to worry that he would have learning disabilities as a result. Thankfully, he does not, but I hate that I spent time worrying over something I could not change, regardless.
