re: First endo appt, questions to ask?

Hi Carol,

Read everything you can find on CAH.  If you are familiar with the terminology, you’ll retain more of what the endo tells you.

The pubic hair and advanced bone age are two typical symptoms of CAH.  The endo will probably want to do an ACTH stim test.  This involves drawing blood for a baseline reading, injecting a substance to stimulate your daughter’s adrenal glands, and taking more blood after an hour.  The results will indicate whether or not she has CAH.

If she does have it, testing your son is a good idea.  If you are uncomfortable with the ACTH stim test for him, you can always get an x-ray to make sure his bone age is not advancing inappropriately.

Hope your visit goes well.
