Anne-MarieYeh it will just be a phone call asking you to raise med’s and then they may want to re check the levels in a months time to make sure that they are coming back down to normal ranges. Well that is typically what happens here when Ashley grows out of a dose.
They will usually only be hospitalized for a 24 hour profile or illness. As far as I knew they usually only do a 24 hour profile when the levels are ok and the child is well. That is done as a means to check the doses in the day. We have never had done, and they were going to do a 24 hour profile but then when we saw a new Doctor we decided to wait until we have the 17 OHP blood spot testing up and running here.
The 17 OHP never made Ashley hyper. I guess if a child had adequate cortisol levels and high 17 OHP levels this would happen. He was more depressed and unconfident really. His attention span was not very good--so he was assessed as possibly having ADD in the sense that he distracted others and did not do his work as well or was easily distracted, but he was not hyper as in running around and wrecking stuff like some kids get with ADHD. They have lower blood sugar than on their good days where they are well controlled. As the deficit get’s less--because their growth is accelerated--their blood sugars may get lower. It depends how long they are left before the problem is picked up.
Hope that you get it sorted sort out anyway!
