kathyCeres,
Congratulations on your new baby son! Count your blessings. First of which is that you live in a state with newborn screening for CAH, that the diagnosis was made in a timely fashion and that meds were started.
However, I am concerned that your endo has not yet given you the lowdown on dealing with illness in a SWCAH child. Am I misunderstanding? Our endo did not let us leave the office upon initial diagnosis until both my husband and I felt comfortable giving an injection of solu-Cortef to our daughter in the event of an adrenal crisis. We went thru all the instructions again the following week at our visit. Fortunately, it was almost a year before we actually had to put our knowledge into action.
I remember so vividly being in your situation - new mom of a baby with a serious medical condition - and not feeling up to the role God had handed me. I’m still not sure how I made it through the first few months, but when I now look at my 8 year old daughter, I am so overcome with love for her and appreciation for her health. Our family has all learned so much and we know that God doesn’t make mistakes. He knew exactly what He was doing when He blessed us with her! Dealing with CAH has become such a way of life for us. It will for you, too. Our daughter leads a very normal life. Your son will too!
Take care and best of luck,
kathy
