re: newly diagnosed

Hi Ceres,

Boy have I been there. I had two boys prior to having my last son. He was diagnosed through newborn screening and didn’t start his meds until he was 30 days old. After much investigating and a trip to NY we found out that he wasn’t a SW but rather a SV. Meaning he still has classical CAH but not the saltwasting kind. I had my other two sons tested with the Stim test because they were born in CA where there is no newborn screening. My youngest was born in TX where they do have the screening. Luckily my other two boys did not have CAH.

Was your son ever in crisis? Do you know what to do in a crisis? My son has never had one but I am prepared with a solucortef shot kit. If you don’t have one, you should.

It definetly will get easier. As for me, I thank God every chance I get that I got CAH to deal with and not something else much worse. My son is now 17months old and doing great. He only takes cortef .  He loves chewing his pill up and never had problems with it. It took me many months to feel comfortable and back to "normal". I’m sure with time, you will too.

Good Luck,

Sandra
