AimeeDear Michael:
It’s great to read a post from someone that is older ! I’m 32 and I have SV CAH. I often wonder how CAH will factor in my health as I age. I’m taking my Citracal + D with a glass of V-8 juice right now as I write this. I have to get a bone density test done, I keep putting it off though. They say that flosomax is a good drug to help build bone mass also. So many drugs, I think it’s time to buy the pill box.
For time most part, I’ve always taken prednisone 7.5 mgs/day. Is that about the same that you take? Have you ever had any trouble with your eyes? My doctors are freaking me out by telling me about possible vision problems in my future. How about teeth and gums? Did the prednisone have any side effect on them?
Even though I’ve taken prednisone my whole life my new Endo wants to put me on hydrocortisone. I’m excited, maybe since it is not as harsh there will be less side effects from the drug. Taking a med 3 times/day is not a big deal when you are already take it 2 times.
Have you or your sisters ever had any problems with anemia? I’ve read that anemia which is not a disease can be caused by a malformation in the body such as CAH. It doesn’t necessarily have to develop from a diet of poor nutrients or lack of B12.
I always wonder about what is contributed to the natural aging process and what is the CAH. One of the the things that did bother me though was to find out that the consumption of alcohol/beer also depletes the body of bone mass.
I agree that doctors don’t know about the future for older people with CAH but at least by you going through it makes it easier for the generations to come. I like that anything that happens to the people that are older will benefit and make it better for someone else.
Happy Holidays,
Aimee
