Hi Amber,JanetDWe have a bad stomach flu going around this area. Yesterday in Olivia’s daycare class they sent home 3 kids. I’m just keeping my fingers crossed.
I wouldn’t worry about the eating. Your daughter will eat when she is hungery. The liquid is of major concern.
You said that she kept down her Cortef. One thing to keep in mind is that when we have a stomach bug the body usually isn’t absorbing anything through the stomach/digestive track. Our ped endo’s general orders are that after two vomitting episodes (fairly close together) I am to give an injection. Or if she vomits 1 time and is also otherwise sick (e.g. fever) I am to give an injection. Just be observant to how your daughter is doing.
Both times I’ve take Olivia to the ER they gave her freezer pops to eat/drink. I like freezer pops because barring any spills, I know how much liquid went in. They are also high in sugar which I know Olivia responds to very well.
One thing that I learned from the ER nurses was to only give her a sip at a time and then wait 10 to 15 minutes to see if it stays down before trying anothe sip. Carbonation and caffine should be avoided.
Concerning your daughter sleeping -- for me this is the hard part -- is she sleeping because she is lethargic (going into crisis) or is it just normal sick-sleep. When Olivia was sick a few weeks back, I THOUGHT she was just sleepy-tired when we headed to the ER for fluids. Observing how she perked up as the fluids went in, I now believe she was lethargic. (I will be talking to the ped endo about this at the January appointment)
Sorry this is so disjoint. But let us know how she is doing.
Best Regards,
Janet
