I’m behind in reading the messages...JanetDThe United States has an Adoption Tax Credit of $10,000 (or the total cost of the adoption which ever is less). This would be for EACH adoption. It must be used within 5 years (I think)
Also, Missouri (and perhaps other states too) has a $10,000 Adoption Tax Credit for special needs children. Here, all internationally adopted children are considered special needs. So if you live in Missouri there is $20,000 out there.
So, if someone can come up with the money up front (MBNA gives good rates for adoption loans), then they will get some (or hopefully most) of it back.
Speaking from experience (both of my girls were adopted from China), the TOTAL cost of each adoption (home study, INS, adoption, travel, etc) was about $15,000.
Best Regards,
Janet
