First of all: congratulations on the birth of your daughter!! I can remember the shock and despair when our first son was diagnosed with CAH, but rest assured that - even with CAH - your daughter can live a full and relatively normal life. There are many opinions on this board about what to do or not to do about the ambiguous genitalia (see the "Controversy" page).Wendy-LeeWe do have another child - a 5 yr old daughter - with CAH, too; I took dex. while pregnant with her, and her genitals and urinary tract are completely normal! I must tell you now, though, that taking dex will not "prevent" a subsequent child from having CAH ... it will only prevent girl babies from having ambiguous genitals. Any subsequent children born with CAH will still have to take daily medication, and you will need to be watchful for sickness and injury, as you are with your daughter now. There are many of us on this board - including me! - who have carefully weighed the options, and do not feel that the possibility of having CAH is a big enough deal to warrant not having any more children; many of us have decided to have more children, and have 2 or more kids in one family with CAH. My SW 5 yr old daughter is the sunshine of my day, and I’m so greatful that I have her! Hope this helps. God’s blessings.
