re: CAH & anemia

My son has SWCAH, I am just a carrier...but earlier this year I had quite a bout with anemia. Turns out that I had (sp?)polyps in my uterus that were bleeding. For quite a few months my periods were only slightly heavier than usual, then I began bleeding continuously for about a month. I ended up having a D&C to get the bleeding stopped. I had to take iron supplements (150mg a day...twice a day if I could handle it) to get my blood count back up. Initially I had no trouble with the iron, then I got a generic brand and they gave me the diarrhea. Certain types of iron need vitamin C in order to be absorbed. Check with your pharmacist. Most all types are better absorbed by taking them on an empty stomach-1hr before or 2hrs after a meal. And dairy products, coffee, & tea all interfere with iron absorption.
