NicoleI learn so much from reading the posts on this board. I was reading your post about how for any injury over a mere cut would warrant a shot-my endo has always advised me otherwise. It is amazing to me how different each endo can handle a similar situation. I often wonder if my endo has a clue!!
My eldest CAH child fell over the handlebars of his bike-he had a helmet on but apparently he did not have it strapped on (we have had a serious talk about this since the incident) but he bumped his head and had a nice goose egg on the front of his head. I rushed him to the doctor and she examined him, but no one including the endo thought the shot was neccessary-just to keep an eye on him for the next 24-48 hours , keeping an eye on him while he sleeps, etc. I did stress does his oral meds -but the endo did not tell me to do that either. I have been given a list of times when I should give injection, and I know broken bones, severe injury, insect stings (i.e. bee, wasp, etc.) unconsciousness, lehtargy. vomiting, fever over 101.5, and surgery are really the only things listed. But what constitutes a severe injury? Can this really be subjective from doctor to doctor? And I was told emotional stress was not an instance to stress dose.........any info you have would be appreciated as it is frustrating that there seems to be a different standard used by my doc and I often wonder if I am putting my children at risk.
