Sleep and Cortisol levels

I’m wondering if anyone has any input on sleeping problems with their CAH child?  Our almost 7 mo. old SWCAH son has been a bad sleeper from the beginning.  I really think at this point, most of it is behavioral -we (me particularly) really babied him.  Yesterday was the first we let him cry it out -last night he cried for 1 1/2 hrs. before falling asleep.  I’m still nursing him during the night, but not responding to every cry(he often wakes 3-10 times).  Our ped. and endo both say this crying is fine and we don’t need to dose differently.  I’m concerned though because in a book I’m reading, the author says ..."part of the cortisol secretion rhythm is related to the sleep/wake rhythm,"  and he also says, "levels of cortisol dramatically fall during a nap, indicating a reduction of stress in the body.  Not taking a nap means the body remains stressed."  I know he needs to learn to put himself to sleep, and in the long run, this will be best for him regarding quantity & quality of sleep.  I really do think mostly it’s behavioral and some biological, but I just want to be sure I’m not hurting him (physically)- I know his feelings are hurt right now & it breaks my heart, but he’s so happy the rest of the time.  Thanks for any advice!
