April PierceI have a 4 year girl old who likes to pretend she’s Tarzan or Buzzlightyear. She has Barbies and a Ken. She likes the Ken better, but she takes good care of Barbie, making sure she’s dressed warm. Her empathy at 4 amazes me.
Her preschool teacher bought her a big truck for her birthday.
She plays in her kitchen when other girls are over, or when she’s been play hunting and has a deer to clean and cook.(She saw an uncle do this.)
She can throw a football with more accuracy than I can.
She is very smart. She is a hard worker. She makes friends very easily. She is a hugger. She is very funny and wonders if God laughs at her jokes.
She is tough.
She spent her first three and 1/3 years in an overloaded foster care system where she was well loved, but not stimulated or nurtured much. She was not potty trained. She could/would not talk.
When she moved in with me 18 months ago, she worked diligently to catch up. She started talking Thanksgiving and she hasn’t stopped since. She worked hard in speech therapy. She can write her name and tell you what every letter sounds like. She can memorize long verses from the Bible.
Back to the subject. She doesn’t like dresses. I made her wear one to church, where it is an option, and she cried. I decided to only make her wear a dress when we had to, like when she was dedicated at the church and when we went to court in October to finalize the adoption.
I don’t know if CAH contributes to her personhood or not, but I wouldn’t trade her essence for anything in the world.
You are a good Mommy to be researching. We’ve been through one stomach virus together. Now I’m not so afraid. I’ve done the homework, and I see how well the emergency letter works, so no matter what happens, we’ll be ready.
Good luck with your twins!! I know you must be proud of them.
