Karen in KentuckyHi. I have Addison’s Disease (Adrenal insufficiency) and posted the following information on healinglight.com - a board for those with Addison’s. I received an email from one of the members of this board asking me to post the information here as it could possible help you as well.
For years have suffered with feeling sick in the mornings - headache and nausea, until my medication (Prednisone or Hydrocortisone) kicked in. I made some phone calls to compounding pharmacies around the United States trying to find one that could make a delayed release prednisone (my drug of choice). I received several replies that they could make it time-release with slow releases of the medication over a long period of time. That wasn’t what I needed. I wanted something I could take at bedtime and at 3 or 4 in the morning would release the medication - like the adrenals would do if they worked. I found a pharmacy in Lexington, Kentucky that was willing to try. (The fact they are in Kentucky is just a coincidence. I’m 1-1/2 hours away from them and we took care of everything by phone. I could have been 1,000 miles away!). They purchased the necessary equipment for the process and I’m now taking the medication.
I take 5mg of Prednisone, however, they can do any dosage. They coat it in a substance that takes a while to break down. It seems to be releasing at the right time. This is my first week on the medication and I have been waking up headache and nasuea free! It’s only the first week, so I want to make sure it is releasing at the right time and all, so far - it’s wonderful. I pay $1 a pill.
I am using Tricare Pharmacy - www.tricarepharmacy.com.
