ShaunP.Hi there,
My son has CAHypoplasia and had seizures from about 7 days old onwards. We had a hard time finding a medication that stopped them which eventually was epilem(tegrtol). He was fit free from 18mths and we took him off after 3 years and he has remained fit free for 6 years now. His fits manifested in apneoic(?sp, stop breathing) and he also had absences. We always felt the seizures started after his second adrenal crisis and the second lumber puncture. My wife specifically asked them not to do one because the previous one from a few days earlier was negative and Liam reacted really badly to it.
The only way to confirm epilepsy is to catch it on an ekg but that is unfortunetly pot lick unless they are regular. I hope you get to the bottom of it quickly and if he is epileptic now it is important to find the correct medication because most kids this young will grow out off it. Any problem area in the brain will be wired around so to speak in the first 2 yrs when the majority of brain growth occures. In effect ’Do not enter’ signs are errected around a problem area, thats how I pictured it anyway. TC
