You may not get this because it is so late in the threads but here it goes...

We had a daughter almost 7 yrs ago born with severe ambiguous genitalia. Today after over 15 hrs of surgery I can tell you she is incredible. Quite honestly you can hardly tell a difference between her and her sister.

I chose to take Dex before we even got pregnant because even though it is not 100% foolproof it would have been an improvement over what we and she went through.

I got pregnant 3 yrs later and started Dex in my 4th week of pregnancy. Our endo said if you started much after 6 wks you will lose the effectiveness due to the genitalia having been formed by then... I’m sure that is up to debate but she hadn’t steered us wrong. I found out we were having twins six and a half weeks into the pregnancy. I remained on the dex until we found out the boy is a carrier and the girl is unaffected. It was at about 4 mos. The side effects weren’t bad until it was time to come off Dex. Even that wasn’t so horrible. Very moody, weight gain, acne (oh yah) typical PMS magnified by 3 or 4. Not fun but the alternative wasn’t too appealing either.

The "twins" ( I hate calling them that..) are turning 3 next week! They are awesome, healthy, very happy, easygoing(ish) kids. Their sister is in GREAT health and successful in school. She plays soccer, t-ball, as well as barbie and dress up.

I hope this has helped you. It took us 3 yrs to get the courage up to do it again. You will know when you are ready. Everyday gets better and less scary. get a good doc and you are all set!

God Bless!
