re: suggestions for giving meds

Hi Tonya- I know what you’re dealing with.  My son had to start taking Cortef and florinef when he was 2 1/2 and it didn’t go over well at first.  A few things have worked.  Try putting the pill inside the barrel of an oral syringe. Put the plunger back into the barrel.  Put the tip of the syriinge into a cup of juice and draw juice into the syringe.  Wait about 10 mins or until the pill disentegrates. Shake it a bit then give it to him.  At age 2 I always had his favorite stuffed animal give him his med.  He would take it for this "third party".  I also enlisted my older son to take a version of med (just juice in a syringe). If you do not have other children maybe daddy could take it.

Your husband is right that the pill tastes very bitter although my son, who is now 6, isn’t bothered by it at all anymore.  If you want to give him the pill without dissolving it, try putting it in a 1/2 teaspoon of applesauce.  Lightly cover the pill with the applesauce and have him swallow it down.  Follow it with a swallow of water or juice. My son did this for a while and it went well. Good luck.
