Hi Elizabeth,

I see Sue answered your question...cool. Yes we are in NZ and they have only just set this up in the labs in Auckland where they do the Newborn Screening.  Results are expected to take 2-3 days, but this is only the second one that we have done so early day’s yet and  am still awaiting the results.

I had to take Ashley to the Doctor today to get his med’s and asthma stuff and we spoke to the nurse there at the practice and showed her our needles in the softclix.  She said the same as myself about it being ok for diabetics because they only need a minscule drop to test.  That they looked smaller than the ones that they use.  She then gave me about ten of their little disposable devices, which can be re used  several times and have a longer thicker needle.

I went to get some groceries before and came back to find Ashley had done the prick himself and filled the WHOLE of a spot in one go with the use of one!  I am really pleased actually that he did it himself as for the best part when the metabolic nurse trained us, she addressed him the whole time and asked him to do things for himself and showed him as she demonstrated what to do and I just observed.  So I found her very nice and she managed to make him feel that HE should be in control of the whole thing.  I think he is brave to even attempt it after the fiasco the other night.

With the exception of the 3am one that we do, he will be able to do this himself in a week or two at this rate.  I will just write some enevelopes out and put stamps on them and he can take charge!  LOL!  Dont know what I will do with the softclix pen now.  ;)  Pity we cannot take blood sugar--I would have a use for it. :)
