AmandaFor a little background, I took my daughter for her first visit with a ped endo in December 2002. She had been exhibiting body odor for almost a year, acne for 6 months, and thick body hair and pubic hair for 3 months at that point. The ped endo was SO rude, he looked at my daughter for maybe 2 or 3 minutes, and spent the rest of the time asking questions. He ordered no tests, but gave us a diagnosis of CAH. I came home, talked to the pediatrician, and asked for at least blood tests to be done. After phone consultation with the ped endo, blood tests were done. Her DHEA and 17-OHP levels were both very high for her age. The DHEA was double the upper limit for her age group. Once the results came in, the pediatrician started trying to get in touch with the ped endo we had seen. After 4 weeks of trying to contact him, the pediatrician learned that the endo we’d seen is no longer with the practice, and is no longer practicing anywhere (apparently he’d had a stroke in October). Now, after 5 weeks, the former partner of this endocrinologist spoke with our pediatrician and informed him that there is nothing wrong with my daughter. She does not have CAH, that she is merely experiencing puberty early. The pediatrician called me, going on and on and on about how relieved he is that there is nothign wrong with my daughter. I wish I were convinced that a 5 year old with body odor (worse than mine!!), pubic hair, acne, thick black arm and leg hair, and a bone age of 8-10 (3 different people read it and can’t agree) has nothing wrong with her.
Advice? Recommendations? UGH!!!
