AdinaHWe took Jacob in for a cleaning about six months ago and the dentist (who is Jacob’s godmother’s son in law) arrogantly told me that I was wrong and my son does not have hyperplasia but hypoplasia and he started trying to teach me the function of the adrenal glands and told me that nothing would happen to my son with anesthetics for his cavity except that he would pass out. I told him "then why don’t we call his endocrinologist right now and make sure?" He said "Not to worry, I’ll call him myself!" So he did and he told us Jacob was not to come in unless he had been triple dosed properly for his HYPERplasia. Forget family friendship and relations... we now will be seeing a new and less arrogant dentist. How he could possibly think that a parent wouldn’t know the correct name of their child’s disorder is beyond me.
I also have to laugh that the same pharmacy that when we pick up our prescriptions at every two weeks, the lead pharmacist always comes to the window to give us the "miranda rights" on Cortef tabs: "take this medication with food or water, do not stop using this medication except under the direct supervision of a physician, if you notice any signs such as swelling of the face or ankles contact your physician immediately..." on and on as if we’ve never taken it before or we are new customers. I have to laugh. I told him once "we’ve got it" and he said it just makes him feel better to know his bases are covered. Sometimes I wonder if we’re more comfortable with it because of the little extra cortisol and it just makes everyone else around us a nervous wreck! Me... I’m laid back. I just get a good chuckle about the whole thing!
Just a "Yep, I’m a dummy" question, but isn’t HYPOplasia the same thing as Addison’s? So wouldn’t the treatment be the same except adding a few more medications and enzymes?
