A glusoce meter is an effective way to tell if your cortisol levels are low or high.  Whatever your cortisol levels are doing it will be reflected in a blood sugar reading.  So actually getting a blood glusoce meter would be a good way of gauging this.  perosnally I think all CAH’ers should have them.  espeically when you can read at a glance what the cortisol levels are doing when your feeling icky and know whether you definately need a boost.  Then checking the glucose levels through the course of that illness would give you a good indicator as to whether you were increasing your med’s enough to bring the glucose levels in the normal ranges on that meter.

I did speak to the nurse at my new Doctor’s a month ago and she said anyone can buy a glucose meter and use them.  It is something I would preferably buy over a thermometer when I can afford it as I think it would also be good for taking monthly to check that the levels are not way out of whack as I gather that as kid’s grow out of their dose, that their blood glucose levels would drop considerably.
