Our Doctors allowed Ash’s to go to 31/2 years immature before doing something about it. I would not let that happen again to be honest. It has set him back considerably and we don’t know if he will have any chance to catch up with his peers now. The thing that perplexes me the most is that they put these kids through the x-rays and yet when they extend to such vast differences ( 2 yrs and above) why do this is they are not going to use them to confirm what the growth charts should indicate which is small height for age---irregardless of the fact that they have the same weight gain. Ashley never had weight gain either and they used that as an indicator that he was ok. When the bone age is screaming over kill, it really is time to do something about it if they can see that the height growth has slowed off and two years of monitoring that is way too much for my liking. They know on average how children grow at different ages and stages and should use that knowlegdege occasionally for our kids. Half the time I wonder if a lot of Doctors like to run them in the "safe" ranges to avoid too many hospital admittances with crisis---and this is wrong really. Either that or to cut the appoitnments to six monthly in the knowledge that the child will not outgrow the dose in that time as they are on MORE than they should be. Easier to monitor that way and keep tabs on---and when the growth slows down--they know exactly why, but don;t do anything because their job would become more complex actually doing it by the book and running the kid’s in good ranges for bloods AND x-rays. It does happen believe me. :)Anne-Marie
