Anne-MarieMegan et al,
I think we all know here that the ones with the CAH most severe have THE most potential for their hormone levels to be out of whack in a very short space of time. I’m surprised your not aware of that--it is something that can affect them over a longer and shorter period of time depending on what is happneing stress wise, growth wise etc. I’m not going to debate that here with you, when I have had a son with elevated androgens to such an extent he nigh on hit puberty and yet seemed perfectly healthy. I merely stated to you all here, that cortisol is NOT the only hormone involved in this whole situation. that other hormones come into play and anabolics can be very elevated with ongoing extended activity as it would be for a professional athlete or anyone thinking of competing. Blood tests would have to be weekly for that athlete to make sure that the cortisol he was expending was being covered, otherwise deficits are created in the supply and demand and of course anabolics are the first to rise in the blood.
To bring the topic up is one thing, but let’s atleast discuss the matter to it’s full potential and NOT just look at the drugs they take, but the other hormones that can be affected in those situations. I’m surprised you feel it is only LOCAH people that would possibly be affected when the enzyme block ofr a SWCAH or CAH is far more apparent and therefore any deviation in energy expednded obviously creates a larger deficit in a shorter space of time where cortisol is concerned for more serious cases. Not necessarily making them feel ill either. Ashley’s dose was cut by 2.50mg per day and it took 10 months for his levels to get out of whack and even when they rang me with the androgen levels panicking, he was perfectly fine and he is SWCAH diagnosed at 12 days old. To assume that these issues will never be a problem is not sensible really. We’re looking at more than ONE hormone in this that could possibly be elevated beyond what it normally should be. In fact we are looking at a whole pot of them!
Also, just because I discuss those hormones herein does not mean I approve of the countless people that shove them down their necks orally! I would thank people to atleast look at such posts witth an open mind and some certain sense of openness and if your opening a topic to discuss something--can we discuss it sensibly without making other’s whom wish to discuss it feel bad? Because the fact remains that adult males and females have higher anabolic levels at times during normal three monthly checks and they cannot get the med’s spot on ALL the time. Anyone knows this much---so why I am being jumped on here is another matter. Yet another topic that seemingly is too touchy to discuss without people taking it the wrong away.
Thanks, I mean I don’t particularly like walking away from my PC feeling that everyone thinks I am some pill popping body builder, but i felt like it yesterday after it was insinuated that "some amongst us steered the topic into murky water’s" when the topic IS murky and always will be without my help I can assure you. :)
