hi maria

my son has nonclassic cah, that was picked up at birth.  the screening test that they use for the newborn screening.  is exactly what it is called, a screening it is not designed to pick up all cases of cah, but mainly the more severe salt wasting type of cah.  there are times that the newborn screening picks up a child with nonclassic (also called late onset).  a really good website to look at for info on nonclassic cah is www.caresfoundation.org   there are plently of cases of nonclassic cah that go undiagonsed and plenty more that get diagnosed later in life when they begin to have problems.

i guess in our cases it is nice to know ahead of time that way we can look for any problems that might arise in the future.  at this time, our son doesn’t take any meds is doing wonderfully.  we just have his numbers checked every 6 months.  some times nonclassic cah males don’t even need treatment, if they are able to make enough cortisol.

best of luck
