My understanding that the term "simple virilizing" is refering to the viriliziation (is that a word?) of the genatilia that occures before birth.  Though I have to say, that the word "simple" tends to make the situation will be easily corrected.

If he has a high11-deoxycortisol, that is an indication that he is an 11-beta. Have they run an ACTH stim test yet?  When they do they can check the levels for all of the various forms of CAH.
