re: Saw Palmetto

Saw Palmetto reduces the conversion of 17-OH-Pregnenalone to DHT (dehydrotestosterone) and would also therefore reduce the conversion of DHT to androstenedione and testosterone in the adrenal gland.  So reducing DHT is a good idea in general.  Saw Palmetto is also anti estrogen also, so if there is an over production of both hormones (which there would be in CAH) then it should technically level those hormone balances out.  Finestride on the other hand is NOT anti estrogen.  This is why a lot of men suffer the side-effects with finestride such as loss of libido and also they can sometimes develop enlarged tender breasts.  A lot of men take Saw Palmetto as an alternative to Finestride to help with Prostate Probs.  It is also an hormone that women can take though.   It has now started to be used for male pattern baldness in men and women also.  Can also be bought over the counter.
