Anne-MarieIt is not very commonly known but lack of fluid or slight dehydration can mean that the secretions in the lungs are not adequate. This triggers irritation type of asthma. The simple solution is drinking pelnty of fluid and avoiding dehydration. However, with CAH kids, they can only retain so much fluid anyway and then that’s it. The fluid retention is of course dicatated by the medication doses they take in. Both the cortisol replacement and the mineralocorticoid replacement are responsible for this. If the doses are therefore insufficient then I would say the it was not impossible for this to affect the fluid levels in tissues of the body such as lunfgs ans trigger asthma attacks.
Dehydration can also cause arthritis and all number of other conditions too. There is a good book out at the moment:
"Your Body’s Many Cries For Water," by Fereydoon Batmanghelidj
It goes over the above. Very interesting and a must for folks with CAH I’d say and whom have many health concerned because I think if his theory is correct most ailments could theoretically be dealt with by just adjusting the med’s correctly.
