WolverineMine says hydrocortisone dependent. You might want to talk with the director of the local Firefighter/Paramedics Department and give him a sheet about what to do in case of an adrenal crisis . Down here were call them firemedics, I think that is cute but on the serious side I’ve been told by many a medic that they wouldn’t know how to help me and it would be best if there was something on file about how to treat me with the cortisone.
Also, I would get to know the staff at the ER beforehand because you don’t want them to waste anytime trying to learn about CAH or call her Endo before they can treat her. It’s up to us to educate and help them help us. I know there is always a liason between the patients and staff that could be useful in this situation perhaps the medical social worker even .
I was in the ER awhile back and the Doctors and Staff were wonderful but they didn’t know what CAH was and admitted that it is was only something they went over quickly in med school. I told the Doctor that I had CAH and he then looked at the chart where the nurse had written down Prednisone when I told her what med I was on (I was taking Prednisone at the time switched to the hydrocortisone a couple of months ago) the doctor then went "CAH, ok but what do you take the Prednisone for"? I replied, "...ffffor the CAH." He said," Oh... ok...for the CAH." I would trust this man with my life, he just didn’t know what CAH was but he was a quick study and willing to learn but it would of been better for me if he known beforehand.
I never like to sleep in my bracelet because it gets all snug around my wrist as I turn in my sleep, other then that I never take it off and I feel naked without it. People say it goes with my surfer girl look. I want to get a gold one just for something different butthe steel one was free so thats the one for now!
Best Wishes,
Aimee
