Hi,

Yes, the dexamethasone can be taken as soon as you find out you are pregnant. Don’t wait too long because the longer you wait to take it the less effective it is.  If your doctor is not knowledgeable when it comes to the dex and how much you should take, contact Ann Carlson at Dr. New’s office and they can have a doctor talk to your doctor or I beleive she can tell you what your dose should be and send some literature for you and your doctor to look at.

Once you start taking it you can decide if you want a CVS (Chorionic Villus Sampling) or an Amnio. The CVS is done earlier and if you have a FISH test done when they do the CVS you will know the sex of the baby within 48 hrs. If it’s a boy then you can stop the dex. If it’s a girl then you have to wait for the CAH DNA tests to come back. Then you go from there.

Good luck with your pregnancy. I know it’s hard not to worry but there isn’t anything good that worrying can do.
