WolverineHi:
Maybe it’s the actual pharmacy that is having trouble ordering Cortef 0.5 mg. It might be more cost efficient for them just to carry the 10 mg.
When I switched to hydrocortisone from prednisone the perscription was written for 10mg. I proudly went my local drugstore w/pharmacy. It’s the one that has a store on every corner in the sunshine state.
I was told that only 20mg was made and I should just buy a pill cutter. With having CAH, my inital trust in doctors is nill, so why would I believe a pharmacist? (smile , sarcasm) I wasn’t going to by a pill cutter from that snotty woman anyway. I left and went down the street to the same pharmacy but just on a different corner. That pharmacist was much nicer and truthful. He stated that indeed 10mg of hydrocortisone was made but they didn’t carry it because it wasn’t cost effective for them. He went on to say how most people that take hydrocortisone need higher doses for things like respiratory problems, skin problems and so on. I bought the pill cutter and got my perscription fill with the 20mg from the nice man. Later that day, I called another pharmacy that is out of a grocery store chain and the pharmacist stated of course we carry 10mg of hydrocortisone. I guess, I should of shopped around! I don’t know if this is the reason for the Cortef 0.5mg not being available but you never know.
