re: CAH vs. Diabetes

I’d say that also Elizabeth.   I know diabetes in some cases is more difficult to treat but it doesn’t seem to involve as much monitoring where growth is concerned either.   There seems to be a lot more self monitoring and adjustment that goes on with even insulin dependant diabetes somehow I’d say.  The only reason insulin is delivered by jab is because it doesn’t survive the stomach acids and cortisol does.  I’d say on  the side of handling when ill they would both come close to being the same.  I guess being ill with diabetes and having high or low blood sugar etc is AS dangerous as an adrenal crisis, except both can occur for a CAH’er. Meaning lack of blood sugar and lack of cortisol.  I always perceived parent’s of children with diabetes as luckier because it was more common and therefore they could join support groups and would have more chance to compare notes.  In the instance of CAH, the only way that can occur is via an internet chat room or message board really.  Whereas there would be a substantial number of kids with diabetes in my rural town here alone, there is only one child with CAH and that means it is harder really to deal with and also there is a higher ignorance level...even in the medical field as you said Elizabeth.  Therefore more potential for danger and risk to health.
