Hi, My son is almost 2 years old and was diagnosed through newborn screening. He has never had any problems because of his CAH and he has never been near crisis at any point in his life so far.  He was circumcised, before starting his meds, when he was born with no problems.  He didn’t start his meds until he was about 30 days old. He had never lost weight, had trouble sleeping or eating. He has had some boo boo’s along the way that I thought for sure would have sent anyone into shock but he did great. He also has done great with stomach flu, fevers etc.... From what I understand and from what I have been told by a few doctors is that it is possible for a SV to have a crisis but not likely. Especially, if they are taking their medication properly.  Of course, only time will tell you how your child reacts with his/her SVCAH. There are some SV that act more like SW and then there are some SV that act like NC.

Also, I have been told  that essentially there are two types of crisis. Not to confuse you but a SW will go into a SW crisis before they go into a full adrenal crisis. This is because they become dehydrated much quicker and their electrolytes get out of control much quicker than a child that does not waste salt. So, essentially a SW crisis precedes a full adrenal crisis in a SW. In a SV you wouldn’t necessarily have a the SW part so it wouldn’t be such a quick jump into crisis. Know that is just what I have been told and what I have learned.  Over the last two years in dealing with normal childhood illnesses etc... I have been able to watch how my son reacts to stress on him. So far he is doing well. To me this is a good predictor of how it will be in the future.

Hope this helped a little!
