LyndseyI have both CAH and Type 1 diabetes. I learned I had diabetes less than a year ago and it has taken over my entire life. If I had the choice to get rid of one of them 110% I would chose diabetes. When I go to the doctor all she talks to me is about my diabetes no mention of my CAH and she deals with both of my conditions. Before I had diabetes I thought CAH was bad... but having this I realize CAH truly isn’t that bad of a condition. I still do not have complete control over my blood sugars and I think my florinef and cortisone have something to do with it because as everyone knows, those meds (at least one of them i just don’t remember which) does in fact affect your sugar levels and makes them higher than the average person. Thus making it extra difficult to get a normal sugar reading. Diabetes is only more researched because it is reaching extravagant numbers and I am not talking about type 2 diabetes which can be prevented. Type 1 is the most serious of the 3 kinds and needs to be researched to stop this epidemic from doing more damage. Diabetes is much more difficult to deal with than CAH, it is not simply " a few jabs here and there" This can kill you and others if it is not treated correctly. The way I see it is CAH is an inconvenience where as my diabetes is a life threatening disease. CAH can be maintained very easily with just a few pills compared to what it takes to regulate diabetes. Would you rather live with popping a few pills everyday for the rest of your life with relative easy maintenance and little worries about daily health risks. or constantly running the risk of going into a coma should your blood levels go to high or low if you eat too much or exercise too much and closely monitoring everything you do.
on a day to day basis.... which do you think has more of a major impact on your life?
