I learned a lesson this week about being prepared.  I never think in terms of tornadoes here - although we occasionally get one or two in central VA.  At any rate, one touched down right down the road - literally 10 minutes away - and uprooted huge trees, twisted tops out of trees and removed roofs.  15 minutes away looks like a war zone.  After this, I have an emergency kit where I can grab it quickly if need be.
