re: and I know it’s hard right now for anyone whose child is on it

Don’t you think all the pros and cons of this treatment were considered by the ’experts’ before the trial was started?  This sort of research has to pass a very strict ethics committee before the treatment is offered to the public - especially when children are involved.  It may not be the best treatment for all CAH kids but I have followed the progress closely.  Compliance seems to be the main drawback, with 4 drugs to take instead of 2 but the results have been pretty impressive, especially in those with an advanced bone age.  You cannot say that conventional treatment with hydrocortisone and fludrocortisone is ’perfect’ and the idea of this new regimen was to stop the side effects of obesity and poor growth, due to the higher doses of hydrocortisone used.  There are a lot of considerations to be made when deciding which option to take and the pros and cons of any treatment should be considered seriously as for some kids this may be the right choice.  The dex treatment is another option which sounds promising but once again, it may not be suitable for all.
