Oh my! The nightmare rash! I know I mentioned below another rash my daughter had that later was determined as hives. This rash I mentioned earlier was never really truly identified. We had a nickle test done on her, and it tested positive in a way. I was told the test may not be true because she takes steriods (Cortef). Sometimes steriods off set tests like this. We now have a Medic Id necklace she wears with no problem. My pediatrician really believes that it was caused from a drug she was on called "Macrodantin" we had used it at the time for my daughter’s reocurring urinary tract infections as a maintence drug. We gave it to her every other day. She had been on it for almost a year, so I never gave it a thought. My ped. said you can become allergic to any drug no matter how long you have been exposed to it. A good example was my mom. She could take pennicilin all her life until she was about 40 something. Now she is deadly allergic to it. SO, we decided to never put her back on the "Macrodantin" pill. I was desperate to try ANYTHING at that point. And the things we did try, you would never believe. KNOCK ON WOOD, she has not had that rash back. BUT to me it had all the classic signs of nickle. SO frustrating it was. It was torturous to see her endure all that itching. They say most rashes in children are caused by a bug (meaning virus) or a drug. OR just plain heat rash. Now my daughter ALSO endures a lot of heat rashes. Funny you asked because I freaked out last month when I saw her itching this nasty rash around her neck. We just arrived in Florida the day before. When she woke, she had this itchy nasty rash. We applied cool wash clothes, and it eventually went away by the end of the day. She is the rash queen. Those heat rashes were more frequent when she was a toddler. And heat is NOT her friend. At night we have always kept cotton pajamas without the feet in them. Made her sweat. NO COVERS either. At least for the first two hours. Oddly that is when she sweats the most, awakening from the sweat. She is now almost 6 and we keep the heating vents closed in the winter. (her room is warm for some odd reason) I wait a couple hours after she goes to sleep to cover her. If I cover her before those two or one hours, she sweats BAADD. I know another mom that has that same problem of sweating at night. I find she sleeps best when it is cool in her room. If we don’t have the air conditioner on in the summer, she NEVER sleeps soundly at night! Tossing and turning. But if it is, she is a rock. Amazing. Well I hope your daughter stops her itching. I have every anti itch cream in America. The best I found was "Aveno" bath powder. It is all natural so I really like that. Worked wonders for my daughter. Keep cotton on her when she sleeps too. Carters, has some nice pajamas. Good luck. (ooo, ya got me itching just thinking about it!)Laura
