ToniaSandra,
Congratulations! When are you due? I have 2 daughters both with SSW CAH. My second daughters birth was sooo much more relaxed then what happened with the birth of my first daughter. For my 2nd birth, the ob scheduled an induction and made sure that the endo, neonatologist, pediatrician and urologist were all at the hospital waiting for her arrival. As a result, she had a normal 2 day hospital stay instead of being wisked away to a separate children’s hospital. They did the normal heel stick tests on her (although, Ohio didn’t screen for CAH) and they drew blood on her several times to check her levels. I think it was the standard adrenal panel. They determined her meds pretty much right off the bat and started them as soon as she was born. She never needed an iv or solu cortef right after she was born.
So that you feel more relaxed I would speak to your ob in depth about the "birth plan". Is he/she the same ob that delivered your first son? Both of our girls were delivered by the same ob and he was there when our virilized first daughter was born so he was highly motivated for things to go very smoothly for us.
Best wishes to you!
Tonia
