My 15 year old son has been in the study for about five years and there has never been a time when I regretted the decision to enter the study. Keith was being treated at Emory University /Egleston Hospital in Atlanta and was not doing well. He had weight issues, excessive headaches, struggled with dealing with heat, was WAY moody, etc. Drs. @ Emory insisted that these issues were totally unrelated to CAH but I wasn’t buying it. I began researching (info was in short supply back then) and happened upon the NIH study. I called and ran my concerns by Dr. Merke...she agreed that Keith was probably not adequately suppressed. After our initial visit, his medications (conventional treatment) were severely adjusted and his quality of life improved drastically! While his puberty came a little early (12 - 18 months), it was not enough that he stood out as different among his peers. We go for our final visit in July and I am really dreading having to find him an endo locally. Everyone @ NIH and the Children’s Inn have been wonderful to us.Robbi
