Good question.  The first 48 hours they don’t test for sure because mother’s hormones are still in the baby’s blood stream. The newborning for CAH hadn’t began in Virginia yet so that wasn’t an option but they just took the 17OHP, plasma renin and chem 8 and started the meds.  No special ped doctors or anything or intensive care.  Regular rooming-in.  No IVs were started on the baby either.
