re: Weight management and group situations

Hi Chris,  We are going through the same thing here.  My son just turned 8 and weighs in at over 100 lbs.   He says his stomach is always growly.  I am having a hard time also Chris.  I put him in a bathing suit the other day and almost cried.  I don’t let him see my emotions and really don’t want weight to become an issue that is constantly hanging over him.  He has never really gotten back to the "right" weight since we had to over suppress him because of the liquid cortef.

Out of great frustration, I have agreed to let him play in the Pop Warner Football program this summer.  He showed interest in the game and I thought it would help him to keep him moving.  When we went to sign up, they told us that, not only will he have to play on the team that is one year older than him (due to his weight), but he will also have to loose some weight.  They told us that the training is usually all it takes.  Both my husband and I were very thin as children and never really had any weight issues (until now(:>)).

We are currently involving him in making "healthy choices".  He has lost a couple of pounds and loves to (play) use my pilates machine.

My husband and I are both worried about the physical contact in football but it is hard to get him motivated on much else.  Has anyone else put their child in football? How did they do with the sweating and physicality of it all?

I am sorry that I can’t be of any help other than to co-miserate with you Chris.  Feel free to email me if you like.

Good luck.
