SueGMy daughter’s 17-OHP levels came back "untraceable". I know this should be a red light and indicate way too much oversuppression. But this is what our doctor feels.
1)She is growing well. Gaining inches certainly and gradually.
2) She is not overweight nor does she have any cushnoid symptoms.
3) The last time her level was low and raised her dose a wee bit, the levels increased a lot.
So he feels leave well enough alone. The reason for the results as they are could be any number of reasons and not all blood work results are accurate. I am quite surprised by this. Does this ever happen ? I mean when all physical symptoms indicate otherwise, can the blood work come back looking quite the opposite and then just get dismissed as not accurate. Then why am I subjecting the poor child to so much pain every time for a blood draw. Incidentally I always do the blood draw three hours after her morning dose to keep it consistent. We use Quest labs.
Has anyone ever experienced this ? OUr doctor tends to go by physical symptoms rather than blood work and he feels she is doing very well. But could there be something else going on that I am missing ?
We did a bone age X-ray and I’m expecting the results to be in soon. That should throw more light.
Is it ever possible that even with too much hydrocortisone, a person can show no external symptoms but in the long run experience some negative effects.
Any thoughts are welcome.
Thanks,
SueG
