JanetDHi Risty,
Hopefully things have resolved by now. What you were experiencing with your son is not uncommon. With babies their temps will go up and down. Often times as soon as you give them some tylenol their fever will drop and they won’t act sick. But 5 hours later it is back up again. Our ped endo has instructed for me to give a stress dose until I no longer need to give tylenol to keep the fever down, plus 1 to 3 more stess doses, depending on the over all health of the child.
Just a couple of notes after reading through this thread.
- When you have a question concerning dosing, in particular stress dosing, you need to contract the ped endo, not the pediatrician.
- The goal of giving stress doses and/or injections is to prevent a crisis -- if possible, you don’t ever want to see any symptoms.
- The difference in treating a 6-month-old and a 25-year-old is that the infant will dehydrate very quickly. Even without CAH this is a major concern.
If you son is still running a fever today I would get him checked by the pediatrician to see if there is an apparent cause (e.g. ears) and I would check with the ped endo’s office to see how they want you to alter his dosing. Let us know how things turn out.
Best regards,
Janet
