Hypertrichosis?
Jun. 18th, 2003   12:35am

I was reading in the CARES newsletter about androgen-insensitive areas where excess terminal hair grows and since it didn’t list our daughter’s problem area I went around the net looking up Hypertrichosis.  I am a bit confused.  Our daughter (1 year) has excess hair on her shoulders and upper back which I guess could be hereditary since my father has excess hair everywhere but then I read that an excess of steroids can cause hypertrichosis too?  She doesn’t seem to have it anywhere else.  We asked her regular ped doctor last check-up and wouldn’t you know it, in the flourescent llights you can’t really tell as much so she brushed us off.  In the sun, however,  it is very noticeable and although its fine there is a large quantity and a mix of light and dark.  Before I ramble on anymore, can anyone explain "heredity" isn’t CAH in general "hereditary" in terms of genes(?) so whats the difference and what about the effects of steroids?

Thanks beforehand!
