ToniI agree it is fine to give the meds in a bottle, especially if prepared seperately in a smaller amount (say 2-3ozs) of milk/other drink, which you can be sure is always finished. However I do not agree with Anne-Marie that if you put 5mg of hydrocortisone in a 5oz bottle of milk and only 3oz is drunk, then this means the child has only had 3mgs of the medication. The tablets may have disolved, but there is no way they will be evenly spread throughout the bottle, however well you shake it. (This was one of the prime reasons for the liquid cortef being withdrawn - due to instability!).
I would seriously be worried about anyone making up the whole 24 hour milk requirement and mixing the complete days medication with this. It may sound easy but you will never be sure just how much hydrocortisone your child is getting and at what times, especially as babies tend to feed on demand and irregular amounts. A routine is vital for medication and you should try and stick to roughly the same times when administering doses.
