re: re: When did your endo give you Solucortef for your child?

My daughter’s first endo wouldn’t give us a prescription for the injection either. I kept asking and finally I told my husband that I wasn’t leaving the next apt. w/ the endo unless I had the RX. This time (around 4 months of age) I was armed with more info on why I would need it and why it was a necessity. (We live in a remote area in the Eastern Sierra of CA and had been hiking with our daughter and more than 5 hours from a hospital!!) Anyway, he gave us the RX but we switched endos when she was 6 months and the very first thing the new endo asked us was if we had the injection and did we know how to use it. This is a must!!!!! We carry several with us at all times. (Don’t leave it in cars as it shouldn’t heat up.) Also, we put the med alert on the ankle at first as it would slip of her arm. Our NEW endo asked right away and checks for it at all apts! These are very important things. I’ve heard too many times on this board of close calls because the emergency room was busy and the child didn’t get the injection for quite a while. Our theory is give the injection first and then call the ambulance or get to the ER. Don’t be afraid to give it as it can save your child’s life. Good luck. I say if the endo won’t give you an RX for it find a new one. Julia
