re: When did your endo give you Solucortef for your child?

Hi Sherry,

Olivia’s ped endo has us using Dex for the injectable -- so if you can’t get Solu-cortef, then there are other options.

At the very first ped endo appointment after diagnosis I was taught how to give an injection and I had to give one to the endocrine nurse. She was not going to let me leave without trying it first.

Even though Olivia is now 4 1/2, every appointment the ped endo checks to see that she is wearing the MedicAlert bracelet.

In my opinion, you should ALWAYS have the Cortef tablets and an injectable med with you -- you never know what is going to happen. The same thing goes for a MedicAlert bracelet.  Also with the bracelet, the sooner a child starts wearing it, the sooner it just becomes a part of them and isn’t bothersome (like my glasses are a part of my face -- the first thing I put on and the last thing that goes off).

Best regards,

Janet
